Advanced Firearms Instructor Training
REAL TRAINING
The D.R.A.W. School Instructor Training (DSIT) courses are the most comprehensive, advanced firearms instructor development courses available in law enforcement today. Time and again, law enforcement instructors from across the country who have attended DSIT comment on how much more they learned, actually practiced and mastered when compared to other well-known instructor development schools they have attended. They praise the "no nonsense" instruction as being far above anything they have learned on the state or federal level, in the military or from national and private training organizations.
Real Science
DSIT exposes many of the myths often taught in traditional firearms training and instructor schools and why such practices should be avoided in law enforcement training. Along with better instruction, instructors identify how and why they can improve, and then master the practical skill sets needed to effectively train and mentor other officers. DSIT does not teach "cool" fads when it comes to firearms training. Rather, the D.R.A.W. School curriculum was developed and based on proven and trusted performance science. It teaches instructors how to train others so the brain and body can rapidly execute physical and mental functions in high-stress situations that can be performed by any officer in their agency.
Real PERFORMANCE
There are two DSIT advanced instructor development courses. The Advacned Handgun Instructor course is a 5-day, 40-hour course with a 6-hour online pre-requisite course. The Advanced Patrol Rifle Instructor* course is a 3-day, 24+ hour course. Both instructor development and certification courses are designed to provide certified law enforcement instructors and officers with the necessary skills, training and knowledge required to correctly implement and teach any training curriculum, including D.R.A.W. School. These courses have been approved by South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy for full state firearms instructor certification equivalency.
REAL SKILLS
These advanced courses thoroughly cover the five training segments of the D.R.A.W. School curriculum to provide a full understanding of the critical areas of performance with a firearm. With knowledge-based classroom instruction, demanding practical application and extensive live-fire training drills, these course leave nothing out. Instructor candidates also work through 15 head-to-head drills to safely refine their skills under increased pressure and stress. At the completion of each course, instructor candidates are required to pass a live-fire firearms qualification course, present a class presentation covering one of the aspects of the D.R.A.W. curriculum, and pass a written test.
REAL INTENSITY
Once certified, instructor candidates are eligible to train law enforcement officers in their department and within their region. In certain states, instructor candidates by be able to apply for applicable state instructor certifications without further testing. DSIT is not an “attend and pass” instructor development course. It requires instructor candidates to successfully pass each segment of academic work, accurately perform all practical and live-fire exercises, pass the final written exam and the firearms qualification course. Failure to successfully complete each area of instruction can disqualify an instructor candidate from the course.
